The thing that's making you more tired than work is

This week's hot topic πŸ”₯

This week we're talking about the invisible labour nobody talks about enough.

Hey Reader

I want to ask you something and I want you to actually think about it before you answer.

When you finish work on a Friday, what do you actually do?

I don't mean what's on your list. I mean what happens in your body. Does it decompress? Does the week follow you home? Are you already thinking about Monday by Saturday afternoon?

For a lot of the women I talk to, the answer is that work doesn't really end. It just changes location. The laptop closes and the mental load opens. The kids, the house, the ageing parent, the relationship that needs attention, the friendship you've been meaning to nurture for six months, the appointment you haven't booked, the decision you're avoiding.

This is not a productivity problem. And it is absolutely not a character flaw.

What's actually happening in your nervous system

When your nervous system never fully comes out of vigilance mode, your body doesn't differentiate between a Tuesday afternoon meeting and a Saturday morning. It's all just threat. All just things to monitor, manage, and stay on top of.

Which means rest - even when you're physically resting - doesn't register as rest. Because your brain is still doing the job of keeping everything held together.

I talk about this a lot in the context of burnout because it is so often the thing that gets missed. People rest from their jobs and wonder why they're still exhausted. It's because the job was never the only thing depleting them.

What actually helps

I'm not going to give you a list of five things to do - you have enough lists. But I will tell you this: the first shift is just naming it. Out loud. To yourself or to someone else.

"I am carrying more than my job. And I am not getting enough back."

That's it. That's the beginning.

If you want to understand what's actually driving your exhaustion - not just the surface stuff but the deeper pattern - my Nervous System Report will give you a clear picture of where you are and what your body actually needs. It's Β£27 and it takes about twenty minutes.

Or if you're at the point where you want to talk it through with someone who gets it, book a free Pathfinder call with me.

With care,
Aimee x

P.S. - The invisible labour is real. The fact that you can't point to it doesn't make it weigh any less.
